picket the Musical Theatre Awards

was officially the first Hugo Awards to Musical Theatre

By Pablo Gorlero

More
About a year and a half, Ricky Pashkus and I met in Scuzzi (almost a Ricky office) to discuss our projects related to musical theater. Suddenly, Ricky said something that haunted my head (and I suspect many fans of the genre) in a while, why not think about awards for musical theater? Immediately, everything else was a tenth level. The idea it was specific: to make some awards that distinguish the best of this genre great.
The meetings followed, the ideas came, stayed, flew, fluttered. At the most crucial out something fundamental. How do we call? We played with acronyms. We did not like. We think of names. And among them came the final: Hugo. Both looked at each other and agree. They all wonder why Hugo. We chose that name in honor of Hugo Midon, a mainstay of children's theater, a great connoisseur of the musical comedy, a master of great performers and a man of ethics of integrity who represent the best way for this award. Hugo Midon is a synonym of reliability and excellence of the musical theater as a whole.
needed a guarantee. For we wanted to bring together personalities spotless, from different backgrounds, who also are lovers of musical theater. Agreed to serve on the Honor Committee to be proud and gives us security. They are China Zorrilla, Magdalena Ruiz Guinazu, Pepe Cibrian Campoy, José Pablo Feinmann and Fernando Bravo.
For its part, the jury is what took us longer. We wanted it to be composed of people unobjectionable extensive musical theater connoisseurs, regulars attending the shows and, especially, with sensitivity necessary to understand this genre that relies on externalizing emotions through different languages. We as journalists, experts think, think of artists and teachers. Finally we chose a select group of journalists on gender, a handful of scholars, collectors and historians, and one representative from each of the major schools of musical comedy. Journalists elected
are teachers and Susana Rapallo Armando Freire, Federico Irazábal, Paul Scholz, Jorge Montiel, Gustavo Lladós, Axel Drimer and myself, besides John Garff, Ruth and Agnes Tenewicki Mehl, in the areas relating to musical theater child. Among specialists, scholars, historians and collectors: Freijó Norberto Vázquez, Antonio Alcayaga, Cristian Witte, Monica Guilhaumont, Dario Martinez, Carlos Manuel Fernandez and Mariano Demaria. In turn, we wanted someone to represent the artistic atmosphere. Both had, immediately in mind of a performer who is synonymous with musical comedy, Ana María Cores. In turn, each school chose their representative. They are: Lala Mendía (Silver River), Fernando Villanueva (apron), Jim Olivari (Act & Art), Cristina Girona (Studio Queen Reech), Martín Pacheco (Julio Bocca Studio-Ricky Pashkus), Marcelo Isse Moyano (IUNA) Daniela Fernandez (School Center), Marcelo Sycz (Actors), Mariana Letamendia (Valeria Lynch School) and Maite Garibaldi (La Galera). It also integrates the jury Roberto Perinelli representing Argentores, and Valeria Vanini, representing the Association of Actors Argentina.
thought categories will be 35 and determined that each period shall consist of September to September. Thus, this year will award the 2009-2010 season. The award ceremony will be in October at the Teatro Maipo, kindly provided by Lino Patalano.
This award will allow each item of this art form so collaboration can be distinguished from chorus member to the director, from the soundman to the composer, and from the wardrobe to the adapter. Missing is the event to support this genre so beloved.
is important to mention that, if the initiative is ours, we made the Hugo Awards Civil Partnership to distribute, promote and spread this initiative. Its members, linked to the musical comedy for a long time, are responsible to give context, content and development of this first award to musical theater. In turn, be responsible for conducting the ceremony, the pre-announcement and dissemination of gender. The Civil Association consists of Sergio Arroyo, Gonzalo Castagnino, Mecha Fernández, Agustina González, Florence Gonzalez, Karin Höhn, Tommy Pashkus, Pashkus Ricky and I, Paul Gorlero.

Yesterday, Ricky and I were full of happiness to be able to present our company Hugo Awards at a press conference held at the Novotel Hotel, Av Corrientes 1334, in a room with over a hundred people from the art and journalists who came, despite all round the streets were cut due to the massive demonstration for the media law. On the other hand, is worth mentioning that the Hugo Premo did not appear to compete with any other ACE award, Mary Guerrero and Trinidad Guevara, but to nurture each other and to fill a space that was not covered. Happy
all to work, and work to that in October the field of musical theater has its big party ... as we have long wanted.

The Purpose Of An Fax

significant purchases of Google

"The staff (from the Federal Trade Commission United States Agency for Research on FTC) believes that there is significant competition concerns and is willing to make a recommendation to file suit," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Reuters news agency.

The source said that lawyers for the FTC could still change their minds as they negotiate with Google, the Internet browser in the world.

The initiative comes at a time when Google, which generated 97% of its revenues of $ s23.700 million on advertising in 2009, faces a growing list of investigations in the United States and Europe on issues of competition.

regulators have spent months reviewing the agreement of U.S. $ 750 million that Google will acquire AdMob. Google announced the deal in November and said in December it had received a second request for information from the FTC.

For the seeker, AdMob acquisition would help strengthen its advertising business smartphones like the Apple iPhone and the Nexus One of Google.

the iPhone will support multitasking Danger

" We were the first but we'll be the best, as happened with the copy and paste.

That was the phrase used Jobs introducing the iPhone OS 4.0 for an event in Cupertino, Apple headquarters.

The CEO of the company explained that the delay in implementing multitasking applications had to do with the idea of \u200b\u200bnot sacrificing performance or battery life of the iPhone.

current iPhone users can perform some tasks simultaneously, but is almost completely restricted to Apple's own programs.

An iPhone user can not listen to music on Pandora program and revise its internet bank accounts at the same time. In most cases users must return to the start and close a program before starting a new operation.

With the new version, double click the start button will display all the applications being used. As an aggregate, it is possible to store the state of an application to close it to reopen so that the user to find everything as it was at the time of closing.

Skype users will perhaps the most benefit from the change, since they can leave it active all the time they want.

tasking ability can only be used by users of iPhone 3G S. That is, the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod Touch can not use the new system.

The new operating system will be available mid-year, coinciding with summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

"really changes the way you use the iPhone. You can switch from one program to another very smoothly," said Jobs.

More features
drew attention to the possibility of creating folders, just as with any operating system computers.

Apple's intention is to prevent the user to scroll through too many screens. For example you can create a folder with group games and there all the titles that have been downloaded.

Apple also announced the creation of Game Center, a place where more than 50 000 games available on the AppStore. There, users can interact with each other.

iPhone OS 4 also improved email management with a unified inbox.

Users with access to iBookstore may also synchronize the iPhone with the iPad to read digital books on the platform of their choice.

According to the statement in the presentation, the iPhone OS 4 has more than 100 new features.

Internet identity theft.

The Internet identity theft is sadly a common practice today.
This information collection is intended to make known the details of this type of fraud, bad for the electronic age.

Prevention identity theft online

Follow these tips to protect yourself online:

Password protection

Never share your password or PIN to anyone
Never write your password in a place that can be easily found by others.
When creating your password, do not use information that may relate easily to you (eg your date of birth, social security number or names of pets or hobbies).
Use passwords containing both numbers and letters, preferably that are not recognizable words (eg 7djskDer)
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) (FTC) offers tips for http://www.onguardonline.gov/stopthinkclick.html passwords.
Use a unique password for each system. Always use a different password for every system you enter.
Frequently change passwords for your online account. We recommend you change your password every 30 days.

Online Security
If you provide financial information or place an order online, make sure the site is secure. Look for a URL that begins with "https: / /" and has the "closed lock" () in the lower right corner of your browser.
Do business only with financial institutions and Internet merchants you know and whom you trust.
Beware of sites that try to look like a financial institution. Be careful to check that your bank's web address is correct.
not respond to any email or message in a popup window that asks to update or supply your personal information.
Never leave your computer unattended while using any services or investment banking electronics.
Take care to always close the session and the browser when a secure session is finished.
only access your personal financial information on a computer on which you "trust." Internet kiosks and cyber cafes are not as secure as your personal computer.
Install, use and regularly update anti-virus programs and anti-spyware on your computer.
Make sure your computer is updated with security patches for your operating system and applications. Windows users must enable the automatic update feature. You can find the security patches on the site Provider Web. Check out these sites regularly as these patches are updated frequently.
Consider using a personal firewall to prevent hackers from invading your PC, especially if you use an Internet connection DSL or cable modem. A firewall can be done almost "invisible" on the Internet and help you to block communications from unauthorized sources.
If you use a wireless connection, take care to turn on all security features such as WPA encryption. Change the default password and SSID of your wireless router.

Secure email
If an offer sent via email or on a website seems too good to be true, it probably is.
E-mail is not secure. Never send an email with your personal financial information such as account numbers or social security number.
not open emails or attachments from senders you do not know. Even when you know the source, be wary. Attachments can contain viruses or Trojans that threaten the security of your computer.
Beware of email scams. Never respond to unsolicited emails or click on suspicious emails asking you to validate your account information or provide personal information.
Use software to filter e-mail "spam" messages and identify suspects.
Disable the function of "preview" in your email program. This function may be hazardous to their safety.
Use secure messaging when available. Our electronic banking application has a secure messaging function that can be accessed once logged.

Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal

The musical's creative The Lion King and movies Across the Universe and Frida , and the composer of the latter and Interview with the Vampire announced plans in Latin America

By Pablo Gorlero

Julie Taymor (left). A scene from Juan Darien (right)

BOGOTA .- Whoever has been fortunate to witness the theatrical version of The Lion King surely have wondered, "How he did this happen to someone? ". Who had this fantastic vision to move an animated movie about animals on stage, with performers involved in masks and puppets, was the director Julie Taymor, whose name became famous immediately. Two he made his first big-screen film, Titus, in 2002, her film Frida had six Oscar nominations, and in 2007, surprised everyone with Across the Universe, a film a spectacular view musicalcon existentialist the songs of the Beatles. All these works have left a strong mark by the combination of artistic values \u200b\u200bthat Taymor has been achieved. But much before all of them conceived a musical play, with his partner in life and work Elliot Goldenthal: nothing less than Juan Darien: Carnival Mass, based on one of the best stories of Horacio Quiroga. "Juan Darien is a work conceived in 1988, but it premiered on Broadway in 1996. Although it may think otherwise, this work helped inspire me to The Lion King."
They spent several days in the Colombian capital to present an agreement between the Music Hall Theater Group and Volcano, along with the XII Iberoamerican Theater Festival of Bogotá, to restore and release a new version of Juan Darien in Colombia in 2011, followed by a tour of major cities in Latin America and the United States. Although initially the connection is made in Colombia, also is almost certain to pass through Buenos Aires and Mexico, among other cities.
Based on a story by the Uruguayan Horacio Quiroga, the work combines liturgical poetry of the Requiem Mass to tell the story of John, a little tiger in the jungle (Jaguar) who became man through the love of a mother has lost her child and, years later, she died, is forced to retrieve their animal form, as a result of hatred, fear and intolerance of men. In assembly, Taymor uses the most varied techniques stage, from masks to Bunraku and shadow puppetry to tell this tale set in a small village in the jungle. "With this work we toured Europe, Israel, parts of Canada and the United States. But it was always our dream to bring to Latin America, because, clearly, the inspiration comes from the original story in Uruguay. Our assembly is inspired by several countries American and its artists. Spectators Latin America feel shocked and surprised. Furthermore, it is for a single type of public and non-English. It has no language, "said Taymor.
pictures Juan Darien: Carnival Mass
- Will there be interpreters for each city in which they arise?
Taymor: "We auditioned for many roles and do not know which countries will be the artists. Probably look at each site for children and we will move to find local singers to participate in the choir. Probably also one of the protagonists. It would have been good to use some of the original actors, but it was for many years and I do not know if they will be available. It's always good to incorporate new people, it brings a feeling different.
-In Argentina and Uruguay grew up reading tales of Horacio Quiroga at school and in our homes, how did this story?
Julie Taymor: "That's great. Who can best answer is Elliot. He chose. Elliot Goldenthal
: "When I was learning English and twenties was really interested in South American poetry. I had read Cesar Vallejo of Peru, and began reading to Horacio Quiroga. His readings were stories with simple words, but I hit the power of his language to the heart. Many of his stories were strong for me, but this one was special. Wanted combined with Latin Requiem Mass, which was written in 1250. Quiroga's words are very beautiful to sing. I also wanted to show the church, the carnival, how to cross bridges and Europe to the New World, to the jungle invading the church, and the natural world and Europe combined. We started working with Julie and added theatrical elements to the story and expanded using metaphors in two main lines of work: the church and the jungle and the tiger in the jungle.

Images of Juan Darien: Carnival Mass

JT: "Even the appearance of the carnival. Juan enters the jaguar cage, obviously, but expands the story of the tamer, for example. We wrote the book in Mexico and, when you see it, you'll find more Mexican influences from other countries, as the Day of the Dead plays an important role. Long before I saw many Frida Mexican murals, not only of Diego Rivera. Anyway, this is not anywhere in particular. EG
"Quiroga was traveling all over Latin America and so was his crazy life. Obviously this is a personal work. In music has influences of jazz, circus and carnival, but also from all over the world.
JT: "Many times people say things offensive. Ever told me The Lion King was not authentic. So I say: "Yes, it is because the artists who did were true to themselves." I am interested in that, it is solid. If history is strong, you're gonna get no matter what country you are. I lived four years in Indonesia when he was 21 and had my own company in Japanese and Balinese. This story could happen there quietly. It's about someone who is transformed into an animal, is about a great company up to a village destroying nature, could also impact there. It's a plot. And what we like to Quiroga is that their stories are written for children, but have dark, xenophobia and fear is present civilization struggling against nature, the storm beating against nature. I worked with it for a long time. Even this year, the film Storm. There are great stories that transcend different cultures and specifically that does not mean they are generic, but must be personal to the artist. Then I clearly see my style in my work, my style. These masks may seem Mexican. But they are not show my influences of faces I've seen beautiful photos Salgado. But the sculpture is mine, costume design is mine ... I think that is important, my mark. It is common for people to ask: Why is this person who is not from here do you think of this? It is not right. An example would be to ask: how Anthony Quinn could have played Zorba, the Greek ? Let's start there. Or why it was in English? We went through all these questions and arrive at work. Are you going to move, to mobilize? Yes It hits the heart? Point, that's what we want.
- What are the major challenges of this staging?
JT: "Collect the money ... [Laughs]. In our producer Diane, it was hard to achieve. Also find the child is always the biggest challenge, because it should have some voice soprano without church. We must clarify that it is a Broadway musical, as The Lion King, but a new form, a visual speech. There is no spoken dialogue. But the big challenge is to find a child at the exact moment his voice still has not changed.
- How in touch with the people of the Iberoamerican Theater Festival of Bogotá?
JT: "Felipe has been trying for seven years, we make the American tour America, and without that passion we had not been able to. This is a wonderful festival.
EG: "What we're doing here in Bogota is a miracle. It is an incredible logistics.
- Can you imagine your work without music, Julie?
JT: "I made the film without music Titus was an error. But it is difficult. I run Opera and I think that's why the music hovers in all my essential parts. I like his power and combine it with the images. I even do in Storm, a film about Shakespeare's play, which opens this year with Helen Mirren. Has much music and songs, but is oriented dialogue.
The Lion King (The Lion King)
"The set design has your artistic mark too ...
"It's about a specific topic. Because the play asks what is to be human. So there is no human characters well into the action. There is a jaguar, which is a small puppet, and then becomes a child, which also is a puppet. As it grows, evolves into a more complex puppet that needs to be manipulated by three people. And when his mother dies, an actress with a mask, he takes it away. In turn, at that time is a real guy who performed that action. Therefore, it is the first time the public can see the actors. In the midst of this incredible story, John is the only human. Therefore, limiting public contact with the flesh, man is the man emerge with greater force. The boy becomes much more human and becomes more human, people say that is Jaguar. And that we have just seen in the Gold Museum in Bogota. There are stories and pictures children and men who are transformed into jaguars. I think that is common in Latin America to hear these stories that say: "Beware of wild animals coming at night to take your child and return to society, disguised as men." Here is this boy of 12 years, tortured because everyone knows that underneath that skin is the jaguar is going to kill everyone. So the style of the story and the puppets are not only important because they are beautiful, funny and dramatically rich. The meaning is in the middle. The medium is the message. Then we did was take the idea of \u200b\u200ba mountain village 16 feet by 16. Whenever my films are theatrical works, and my work in film is very theatrical. You'll see a shadow of that people Hsat the church, and on top of the mountain you will see that mother's hut, and miniatures of the parade in the streets, some lighted windows, and shadow puppets in them, and suddenly the people turns and displayed in the foreground of the mother with her child. May seem innocent, but has a dark side. We wanted to write about something that was sentimental and sweet. But this dark thing we decided to incorporate the stories of tigers ... Tigers ... They talk of tigers in South America ...
"In the jungle areas are called tigers jaguars ...
"We'll say ... It has so many points with other jungle cultures. The jaguar, the tiger is always present in these legends and stories. Is who is going to feed your baby and who also will die. Are cosmic stories, and therefore has nothing to do with the kids. We have no problems in the children come, but parents should get them thinking that will explain many things.
-Lecoq You have obvious influences on your work ...
JT: "Yes, it is always automatic. Mask is that I studied with him. Can especially be seen in Juan Darien and The Lion King.
-With respect to this great musical, I have understood that There are talks to be held in Buenos Aires. Is this you?
JT: "Yes, indeed, is trying to form a company to go to South America. We are close to doing. And if I was available, would gladly mount the replacement. - How did you get that magic that combines many art forms and techniques?
JT: "I wanted the audience hit a leap of faith to the imagination from the beginning. The stage machinery should be visible. The audience should be a participant. The dominant theme and the emerging picture was the circle. In addition to being the personal growth of a boy represents the ritual of birth, death and rebirth. An apparent natural cycle. In addition, one of the most powerful elements in the film is the humanity of the animals. I considered this duality and, therefore, not an actor I wanted to hide behind a mask or an animal costume. He wanted the human being is an essential part of styling. I was very happy when I finished carving masks for Mufasa and Scar. Disney saw, saw Africa and saw my own aesthetic.
- Will they be able to get some Storm?
JT: -La went on stage twice and always wanted to do it on film. After working with a big as Anthony Hopkins in Titus , I thought who could make Prospero, but found no one able, with all respect. That is why I Helen Mirren, who will prosper. We have a great cast: Djimon Hounsou, Alfred Molina and Ben Whishaw, among others. The filmed in a very surreal volcanic and Hawaii. It has many effects and combine reality with fantasy.
