was officially the first Hugo Awards to Musical Theatre

By Pablo Gorlero

More
About a year and a half, Ricky Pashkus and I met in Scuzzi (almost a Ricky office) to discuss our projects related to musical theater. Suddenly, Ricky said something that haunted my head (and I suspect many fans of the genre) in a while, why not think about awards for musical theater? Immediately, everything else was a tenth level. The idea it was specific: to make some awards that distinguish the best of this genre great.
The meetings followed, the ideas came, stayed, flew, fluttered. At the most crucial out something fundamental. How do we call? We played with acronyms. We did not like. We think of names. And among them came the final: Hugo. Both looked at each other and agree. They all wonder why Hugo. We chose that name in honor of Hugo Midon, a mainstay of children's theater, a great connoisseur of the musical comedy, a master of great performers and a man of ethics of integrity who represent the best way for this award. Hugo Midon is a synonym of reliability and excellence of the musical theater as a whole.
needed a guarantee. For we wanted to bring together personalities spotless, from different backgrounds, who also are lovers of musical theater. Agreed to serve on the Honor Committee to be proud and gives us security. They are China Zorrilla, Magdalena Ruiz Guinazu, Pepe Cibrian Campoy, José Pablo Feinmann and Fernando Bravo.
For its part, the jury is what took us longer. We wanted it to be composed of people unobjectionable extensive musical theater connoisseurs, regulars attending the shows and, especially, with sensitivity necessary to understand this genre that relies on externalizing emotions through different languages. We as journalists, experts think, think of artists and teachers. Finally we chose a select group of journalists on gender, a handful of scholars, collectors and historians, and one representative from each of the major schools of musical comedy. Journalists elected
are teachers and Susana Rapallo Armando Freire, Federico Irazábal, Paul Scholz, Jorge Montiel, Gustavo Lladós, Axel Drimer and myself, besides John Garff, Ruth and Agnes Tenewicki Mehl, in the areas relating to musical theater child. Among specialists, scholars, historians and collectors: Freijó Norberto Vázquez, Antonio Alcayaga, Cristian Witte, Monica Guilhaumont, Dario Martinez, Carlos Manuel Fernandez and Mariano Demaria. In turn, we wanted someone to represent the artistic atmosphere. Both had, immediately in mind of a performer who is synonymous with musical comedy, Ana María Cores. In turn, each school chose their representative. They are: Lala Mendía (Silver River), Fernando Villanueva (apron), Jim Olivari (Act & Art), Cristina Girona (Studio Queen Reech), Martín Pacheco (Julio Bocca Studio-Ricky Pashkus), Marcelo Isse Moyano (IUNA) Daniela Fernandez (School Center), Marcelo Sycz (Actors), Mariana Letamendia (Valeria Lynch School) and Maite Garibaldi (La Galera). It also integrates the jury Roberto Perinelli representing Argentores, and Valeria Vanini, representing the Association of Actors Argentina.
thought categories will be 35 and determined that each period shall consist of September to September. Thus, this year will award the 2009-2010 season. The award ceremony will be in October at the Teatro Maipo, kindly provided by Lino Patalano.
This award will allow each item of this art form so collaboration can be distinguished from chorus member to the director, from the soundman to the composer, and from the wardrobe to the adapter. Missing is the event to support this genre so beloved.
is important to mention that, if the initiative is ours, we made the Hugo Awards Civil Partnership to distribute, promote and spread this initiative. Its members, linked to the musical comedy for a long time, are responsible to give context, content and development of this first award to musical theater. In turn, be responsible for conducting the ceremony, the pre-announcement and dissemination of gender. The Civil Association consists of Sergio Arroyo, Gonzalo Castagnino, Mecha Fernández, Agustina González, Florence Gonzalez, Karin Höhn, Tommy Pashkus, Pashkus Ricky and I, Paul Gorlero.

Yesterday, Ricky and I were full of happiness to be able to present our company Hugo Awards at a press conference held at the Novotel Hotel, Av Corrientes 1334, in a room with over a hundred people from the art and journalists who came, despite all round the streets were cut due to the massive demonstration for the media law. On the other hand, is worth mentioning that the Hugo Premo did not appear to compete with any other ACE award, Mary Guerrero and Trinidad Guevara, but to nurture each other and to fill a space that was not covered. Happy
all to work, and work to that in October the field of musical theater has its big party ... as we have long wanted.
