BOGOTA .- "Are you Argentinean? Comes to the Festival, right? We have one of the best theater festivals the world. " This is the first conversation he had this reporter to reach the Colombian capital with an airport employee. It is not bragging, but pride. The whole town thinks theater, theater and party breathes theater. Are proud to host groups of 49 Europeans, 15 Americans, 8 Asian and African, in addition to the 39 Colombian companies presented at the XII Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá.
Spring stormed the city with a multiple variety of climates in one day. But even a possible storm or a very hot afternoon traffic even infernal (Bogota motorists drive worse than the Argentines, and that's saying a lot) intimidated viewers that do not leave a single free seat in almost any of the shows presented here. The rooms are very far apart, but there are millions of taxis, ready to facilitate this hunger for culture that began Saturday and will run through April 4.
Colombians have reason to be proud. The best theater the world gathers in this party that created 22 years ago the great Fanny Mikey, who is dedicated this year, the first after his death (see separate box). It all started with a big opening parade, with 2,500 artists, 40 troupes, bands, floats and a doll for almost eight feet of Fanny. "I want to Bogota Carnival has not," said her life. So this opening is a very expected by the citizens.
Multiple ticket offices, located throughout the city? in turn, papered with posters and banners promoting the event? People are full of regrets not find tickets for some works, but without hesitation, get tickets for another. "Fanny taught us to love the theater. We are proud that our festival will give us the ability to approach works best in the world. I look forward to the moment when the audience enters the room from a corner to spy on each work is represented here, "said Paul, a security employee of one of the main rooms.

Medea, as Frank Castorff
Among the most anticipated celebrity guests took the lead in the great Texan director Bob Wilson and the German Frank Castorf. The first blast happened as the early days with their version of Krapp's Last Tape , who moved to one hundred percent of the viewers. Meanwhile, the famous Teatro Volksbühne, Germany, led by elected Castorf-as expected-an unconventional space such as the Colosseum Sports Recreation Park, to make their unique version of Medea . The so-called "destroyer of classics" made a start as stripped as grand, filling the performance space sand, with only a tent, some wood burning and a scaffold to juxtapose tragedy, comedy and philosophy. His adaptation weaves fragments of the tragedy of Seneca and novel in Crimea Heidegger, Alexander Kluge. Sets the action in August 2008 when the Destroyer USS McFaul passes through the area of \u200b\u200bconflict abkaziano and goes to the Georgian port on the Dead Sea. His proposal, permanent ruptures and separations, is based on the "no action". His actors move in and out of his characters avoid the link with their own emotions. It is an amazing assembly, which impacts and causes permanently. But perhaps one has already seen many such proposals, with players rolling around, getting dirty, getting wet and butchering chickens.
The Mexican puppet pilot workshop presented Canek Luna Morena, Mayan legend of a hero, directed by Miguel Angel Gutierrez, puppets, shadows and projections. It is a sensitive story, as beautiful as cruel, shared by a large group of talented actors-puppeteers. Convey tenderness and puppets are manipulated through poetry.
Meanwhile, the English group presented Silenced Theatre Sudhum , a compelling proposal designed by Gustavo del Río Prieto. The piece rescues five real cases of people discriminated against for their sexuality, both acclimated in a Nazi concentration camp, as in Guatemala or in Medellín. It is a requiem which has lasted three years in the lineup in Spain and whose splendid actors do a great job of interpretation, through physical theater, dance and even the songs. An interesting argument against the hypocrisy and intolerance.

Metamorphosis
Grata metamorphosis
But perhaps one of the most acclaimed productions have been the version that the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith Vesturport made metamorphosis. The work represents Iceland, directed by David Farr and Gísli Orn Gardarsson made six features a full house at the Fine Arts Theatre. The latter, gymnastics and mime, is who plays the tormented Gregor Samsa, transformed into a hideous insect. What is unusual about this fantastic scenic layout: a house on two floors, the upper part is designed in such a way that seems to be seen from above, with the furniture hanging from the wall. The actor defies gravity and touch sensitive edges of her child. But outside of this particularity, it is a formal assembly, in line with the absurd and the commercial theater.
For its part, the Balearic singer Buika was a great revelation for Colombians one of many representatives of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, guests of honor this year.
Among Argentines who have gone through the festival, Tango brothel, living and Street, directed by Julio Bocca and Ricky Pashkus, choreographed by Ana Maria Stekelman, was very well accepted, as well as air condition, the show directed by Brenda Angiel an acclaimed.
For its part, representing the Dorky Park, in Germany, Brickland , the proposed dance drama directed by Constanza Macras Argentina, was one of the best reception was by the public and local media. Sets his proposal in a residential area in Argentina, where twelve people live a seemingly quiet, until they collide and expose the distrust, perversion and xenophobia.
as dizzying as a public holiday, FITB, funded by a small percentage of the state and city, and mostly by private companies that are committed to culture is an example to follow. Social inclusion and love of theater is a legacy that already has lush fruit.

At first, in 1988, came a Catalan theater delegation questioned the proposal as extreme religiosity. The players got off the plane with religious trappings, as a result, local religious authorities condemned the theater and said Christians are not to participate in these activities. The public, however, filled the halls. Sure they put a smoke bomb in the theater and excommunicated Fanny Mikey. She did not stop and fulfilled its mission: to make Bogota a center of world theater.
So in Colombia love this actress, director and theatrical entrepreneur from Argentina who died in 2008. The goodbye love, salsa, dancing and clapping and today is remembered with a documentary by his son Daniel Alvarez Mikey, an exhibition at the National Archives and a great event called A Fanny what Fanny: special projects manager.

We feel that Fanny is, for all that generated, and we are proud to witness the love he had and cultural heritage left. She approached the sensitivity youth through drama. a work sublime, from the Balkans
Colombians still breathing theater all over and as the days go by, the enthusiasm is increasingly vibrant. The weather kind help and join the many workshops, seminars, lectures, courses and other activities of this megafestival parallel, according to its founder, Fanny Mikey, required a cost of $ 10 million. "Although I'll do it in 6 million," he boasted. The amazing thing about this is that 50 percent of that money comes from the box office.

Among the groups that occurred in the last two days are the Opera Company Beijing, led by Luo Jinlin, with flashes Chinese opera, the Serbian-Romanian co The dispute , Alexandru Darie; wrap, Gecko Theater (UK), the Teatro de los Andes, led by César Brie, with The odi is (Bolivia), the memorable one-man Mario Morgan leading the Altarpiece life and death, with Estela Medina (Uruguay) in December , directed by Guillermo Calderón (Chile); The Aluminium Show, a performance by Israeli Ilan Azriel, and numerous local plays, including The reckless , directed by Argentinian Ricardo Behrens.
But best of XII Iberoamerican Theater Festival of Bogotá was yesterday. The great Yugoslavian director Tomaz Pandur, one of the best avant-garde of the Balkans had an excellent version of Caligula , based on the work of Albert Camus. Is a co-Pandur Theatres (Slovenia) and the Teatro Gavello (Croatia). Few works shocked both this writer and this shows "theatrical couture" as someone aptly put it in the theater audience's central Jorge Eliecer Gaitan. Pandur is not only a poet of the image, but creates the exact paint that performers have no limits and emotions burst to shake the guts of the viewer.
In his adaptation, the stage is covered with water, where they move the actors and a few, but forceful, props. Water is indeed, yes. But it also becomes the source of energy that feed these wonderful actors (Livio Badurina, Sven Medvesek, Hrvoje Klobucar, Dijana Vidusin and Sven Sestak in the lead roles.) It all begins after the death of Druzilla, sister and wife of Caligula, the instant at which it begins to see the world through different eyes. That is where the most cruel, paradoxically result of their desire for freedom. He believed all men, are believed God, and death and perversion end up nectar. Pandur
unfolded Caligula its bleeding in three ... at first, then six. And in every one of them will be reflected the crazed Emperor sadism, the sick, the slave of himself, the suffering, that of uncontrolled fury. And each of these stages are interrelated, they drink themselves and cause a flood of sensations. In turn, the language plays an important role in sociopolitical between the lines of the work through three languages \u200b\u200bused: Croatian, French and German. The scene in a dream, get caught one of his greatest obsessions, the Moon, is of unparalleled beauty. The catch, plays, loves, makes it bleed until it is rising again to recover its function. That is the world Pandur, poetry, ideology, politics and theater wild. Without doubt, it is in this battered region of Eastern Europe, where the theater and thought connection is becoming the center of the vanguard. After viewing

Another interesting proposal is the theater Biuro Podrozy, Poland, with Macbeth, who is that bloodied man? directed by Pawel Szkotak. Street theater experience to the thousands of spectators who crowded into the Parque Simón Bolívar standing ovation. It is an apocalyptic vision of Shakespeare's tragedy, supported by striking visual effects (fire, motorcycles, music and gadgets scenic attractions). With very good performers, the highlight of this set is the difficult synthesis achieved by the director on the original work. Also, not reveling in cash and got strong scenes of great drama and visual.

physical theater, from the United Kingdom
Although the Colombian capital is preparing to begin Holy Week with many of its inhabitants resting on other sites, for some works of the XII Iberoamerican Theater Festival of Bogotá, are already sold out (and Caligula Imperial Panther are two examples).
Anyway, still eagerly awaiting the arrival of the last week, with some "heavyweights" on the world stage. Up your tent now expected Carillon, Italy, led by Angelo Bonello. This is an urban theater proposal which uses a huge parallelepiped intercepted by 600 meters of cable, features a rotating structure, on which a group of acrobatic plays and performs acrobatic dance, figurative art, circus and theater, under the aura of an electronic and symphonic music. For its part, the curtain will rise tomorrow Why, why , the Swiss proposal, directed by Peter Brook, Miriam Goldschmidt's reflections on the origin of theater and its value in the history of mankind. Meanwhile, begin the day after tomorrow Cirque Eloize, Canada; Baraka, directed by Javier Daulte (Argentina) and Non Solum , the one-man Sergi Lopez on behalf of Catalonia.
arrived in the UK Festival with an interesting adaptation of wrap, by Nikolai Gogol, inscribed in a montage of physical theater. It is a creation of director Amit Lahav, a disciple of Lindsay Kemp, and the company Gecko. In an assembly full of dream imagery, reminiscent of old Italian films, the story of Gogol social rises to a proposal that goes beyond words. Everything in this show, with some breath to Lecoq, running on rails safe mime and physical theater. Lahav uses visual effects magicians who make their actors to overcome the law of gravity. In turn, The shelter is supported by a as attractive as unusual soundtrack composed by Dave Price, where even an old typewriter can become a musical instrument.

With great pleasure we can say that one of the best shows of the festival is The Odyssey, the exceptional work that brought the Theatre de los Andes, Bolivia, led by César Brie. The playwright, poet and director of Argentina, based in Sucre in 1991, made an admirable adaptation of Homer's poem, providing a social and political content not only thought-provoking but until descostillar moves and the audience laughing. Penelope weaves and waits, besieged by opportunists and corrupt as ever, while her husband Odysseus runs fantastic islands and countries, where monsters and Charybdis snares are also those you know well. With a beautiful tone and a poetic drama scholar, Brie speaks of exclusion, identity, loss, absence, and those consequences irreparable, irremediable, where it just seems so fanciful as Circe and Calypso. In turn, Brie designed a seamless installation, making a theatrical display intelligent, witty and shocking, just using curtain rods and rails phones.
This excellent proposal is alive, kind and dear, thanks to the work of a multinational cast in projecting the work of Gonzalo Callejas, Viola Vento and two Argentines who are a pleasant surprise, Ulises riocuartense Palace and Julian Rosario Ramacciotti , two splendid actors multifaceted. post-function. Interestingly, one Preferred sites of companies to terminate the functions is an Argentinean restaurant located in the beautiful historical district La Candelaria. It's called "My old" and its owner is a lover of the theater. Then, almost all companies and other festival participants meet at the call Cabaret Tent, where concerts and "rumba" until dawn.
Medeas. There are three different assemblies of Medea. One of them is the Volksbühne Theatre, directed by Frank Castorf, which ended its functions. The last days of the festival will premiere two versions. One led by Jean-Louis Martinelli, a co-Burkina Faso and France, and the other by Satoshi Miyagi, the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center, Japan.
Ches. Two Argentine roam the Festival. One is Omar Argentino, well known in the environment "under" Buenos Aires because for a long time belonged to group improvisation Events in Argentina. Long settled abroad, arrived here to teach a workshop. The other is Andrew Vincent, an actor and television five years ago is based in Colombia. On average, sees two pieces per day. Demand
entries. Baraka, the work that goes Javier Daulte, with Dario Grandinetti, Marrale Jorge Hugo Arana and Juan Leyrado, added functions, in addition to the five planned within the Festival. Thus, make a petit season before his arrival in Spain. Distances
. Try to see more than one work in a day, can be frustrating for two reasons. The distances between the theaters are huge and frequent traffic jams make it almost impossible to leave a site and enter another. The drive from the center of Bogota to the theater William Shakespeare (which goes to wrap scene) may request an hour and a half.
Doll. In every theater and every place where there is a festival promoting the stand sale of souvenirs. In some of them called attention to a red-haired rag doll. It is the toy version of Fanny Mikey. The tribute is expanded to the merchandising.
